Brewer trained for a ca­reer in com­merce, but in­stead be­came a con­gre­ga­tion­al min­is­ter instead. He be­gan preach­ing at 22 years of age, and pas­tored at Rod bo­rough, Glou­ces­ter­shire; Shef­field (1783); Carr’s Lane Cha­pel, Birm­ing­ham (1798); Rod­bo­rough Bap­tist church (1799); and the Liv­ery Street Cha­pel, Birm­ing­ham. A mem­oir of him ap­peared in the Evan­gel­i­cal Reg­is­ter, 1835.
