Brooks was ed­u­cat­ed at King Ed­ward’s School, Birm­ing­ham, and Gon­ville & Cai­us Coll­ege, Cam­bridge (BA 1st class Class, Tri­pos, 1893; D 1895; P 1896). He served as Cur­ate of St. Au­gus­tine’s, Ber­mond­sey (1895-1896); of St. Pe­ter’s, Ed­inb­urgh (1898), St. John’s Ed­in­burgh (1905); Priest-in-charge of St. Matthew’s, Ed­in­burgh (1909); Rec­tor of St. Andrew’s, Ed­in­burgh (1910); and Priest-in-charge, Balerno (1926).
