Died: June 14, 1883, New­port, Rhode Is­land.

Brooks grad­u­at­ed from Har­vard in 1832, and the Cam­bridge Di­vin­i­ty School in 1835. In that year he be­gan his min­is­try in Na­hant, Mass­a­chu­setts, sub­se­quent­ly preach­ing in Ban­gor and Au­gus­ta, Maine; Wind­sor, Ver­mont; and New­port, Rhode Is­land (1837-1871). In 1853, he vi­sit­ed India in the hope of improving his health. He retired in 1871 due to failing eyesight.
