Buckham at­tend­ed the Un­i­ver­si­ty of Ver­mont (AB 1885, hon­o­rary DD 1904) and An­do­ver The­o­lo­gic­al Sem­in­ary. Af­ter ordina­tion in 1888, he served at the Se­cond Church in Con­way, New Hamp­shire, and the Crom­bie Street Church, Sa­lem, Mas­sa­chu­setts (1890-1903). In 1903 he moved to the Pa­ci­fic School of Re­ligion, re­tir­ing as pro­fess­or emer­i­tus in 1937. In 1914, he gave the Nathaniel W. Taylor Lec­tures at Yale Un­i­ver­si­ty. His works in­clude:
