A chor­is­ter of Can­ter­bu­ry Ca­thed­ral, Bul­lin­ger lat­er stu­died mu­sic with John Hul­lah and Will­iam Monk. He was a Greek and He­brew schol­ar, and the Arch­bi­shop of Can­ter­bu­ry award­ed him an hon­o­ra­ry Lam­beth D.D. in 1881.
