Emigrating to Amer­i­ca in 1811, Dy­er taught mu­sic and di­rect­ed choirs in New York Ci­ty and Phil­a­del­phia, Penn­syl­van­ia. He lat­er moved to Bal­ti­more, Ma­ry­land, and wrote, con­duct­ed sing­ing schools in the south and east, and con­duct­ed the New York Sac­red Mu­sic So­ci­e­ty. His works inc­lude:
