Funk es­tab­lished the first Men­non­ite print­ing bus­i­ness in Amer­i­ca. He spent most of his life in Rock­ing­ham Coun­ty, Vir­gin­ia. He was well known as a col­lect­or of song­books, a re­vis­er and up­dat­er of hymn tunes, and sing­ing school lead­er. His works in­clude:
