Born: De­cem­ber 25, 1728, Wendisch-Offing (near Görlitz), Ger­ma­ny.

Died: June 16, 1804, Leipzig, Ger­ma­ny.

Son of a mu­si­cian, Hil­ler at­tend­ed the Un­i­ver­si­ty of Leip­zig (1754-1760), and served as pri­vate tu­tor to Count Brühl. He es­tab­lished the large week­ly con­certs in Leip­zig in 1763, be­came di­rect­or of mu­sic at the Paul­in­er­kir­che in 1779, at the new church in 1784, and Kan­tor at Sankt Thom­as­kir­che in Leip­zig in 1789. He com­posed a num­ber of sac­red and se­cu­lar vo­cal and in­stru­ment­al works, and re­tired in 1801.
