Hultman’s fam­i­ly em­i­grat­ed to Amer­i­ca in 1869, settling in Illinois. At age 16, he be­came a preach­er, and from1906 on, he worked as Christ­ian sing­er in Swe­den and Amer­i­ca and was called “the Sun­shine sing­er.” In Amer­i­ca, he com­piled the hymn book Cym­bal­en (1885, 1888) and in Swe­den Sols­kens­sång­er (1910-1939). In all, he wrote mu­sic for some 500 hymns. His other works include:
