Hultman’s family emigrated to America in 1869, settling in Illinois. At age 16, he became a preacher, and from1906 on, he worked as Christian singer in Sweden and America and was called “the Sunshine singer.” In America, he compiled the hymn book Cymbalen (1885, 1888) and in Sweden Solskenssånger (1910-1939). In all, he wrote music for some 500 hymns. His other works include:
