Lyon was a chor­is­ter at the Great Syn­a­gogue, Duke’s Place, Lon­don, and a pub­lic sing­er ei­ther at Dru­ry Lane or Co­vent Garden. Sub­se­quent­ly he be­came the first qual­i­fied cha­zan of the Eng­lish and Ger­man Syn­a­gogue in Ja­mai­ca.
