Little is known of Mc­Naugh­ton. His best known se­cu­lar work was “The Fad­ed Coat of Blue,” a song about cap­tured Un­ion sol­diers in the Amer­i­can ci­vil war. A mon­u­ment to Mc­Naugh­ton stands on the farm where he lived near Caledonia.
