Schicht stu­died or­gan un­der Jo­hann Trier at Zit­tau, and played in the Gross­es Con­cert and the Mu­sik­übende Ge­sell­schaft while at­tend­ing the Un­i­ver­si­ty of Leip­zig. He be­came the Ge­wand­haus con­cert di­rect­or in 1785, and Kan­tor of Leip­zig’s Thom­as­schule in 1810. His works in­clude:
