Died: May 5, 1613, Mein­ing­en, Ger­ma­ny.

Johann was the son of Cas­par Steu­er­lein (or Steur­lein), first Lu­ther­an pas­tor at Schmal­kal­den. Af­ter com­plet­ing his law stu­dies, he was, about 1580, ap­point­ed town clerk of Wa­sung­en (be­tween Schmal­kal­den and Mein­ing­en), and then, in 1859, Kanz­lei-Se­cre­tär (sec­re­ta­ry in chan­ce­ry) at Mein­ing­en, to the Hen­ne­berg ad­min­is­tra­tion. He was al­so a no­ta­ry pub­lic, and around 1604, be­came may­or of Mein­ing­en. Em­per­or Ru­dolph “crowned” him as a po­et. His works in­clude:

• A me­tric­al ver­sion of Je­sus Sir­ach (Ec­cle­si­as­ti­cus) (Frank­furt am Main, Ger­ma­ny: 1851)
• Sieben und Zwant­zigk newe geist­liche Ge­senge, mit vier Stim­men com­pon­iret (Er­furt, Ger­ma­ny: 1588)
