Stevenson’s mu­sic­al ca­reer start­ed as chor­is­ter, then vi­car chor­al, at Christ Church and St. Pat­rick’s ca­thed­rals. The Un­i­ver­si­ty of Dub­lin gave him a doc­tor­ate de­gree in 1791, and he was knight­ed in 1803. In 1814, he be­came the cas­tle cha­pel’s first or­gan­ist and mu­sic di­rect­or.
