Evans at­tend­ed Un­i­ver­si­ty Coll­ege in Car­diff, Wales, and re­ceived his Doc­tor of Mu­sic de­gree from Ox­ford Un­i­ver­si­ty. He played the or­gan at the Jew­in Street Welsh Pres­by­ter­ian Church, Lon­don; was a pro­fes­sor of mu­sic at Un­i­ver­si­ty Coll­ege (1903-1939), and was ed­it­or of Y Cerddor. He al­so con­duct­ed the well known Welsh sing­ing fes­ti­vals (Cymafa Ganu) orig­in­at­ed by John Ro­berts, and served as judge at the Na­tion­al Eis­tedd­fod. His works in­clude:
