Shaw be­came a chor­is­ter at St. Paul’s Ca­thed­ral un­der George C. Mar­tin, then or­gan schol­ar at Gon­ville and Cai­us Coll­ege at Cam­bridge, stu­dy­ing there un­der Charles Stan­ford and Charles Wood. He was lat­er an in­spec­tor of mu­sic to the Lon­don schools and suc­ceed­ed his bro­ther Mar­tin as or­gan­ist at St. Ma­ry’s, Prim­rose Hill, in 1920. He al­so served as con­duct­or of the League of Arts Choir, and as chair­man of the schools’ mu­sic sub-com­mit­tee at the Bri­tish Broad­cast­ing Cor­po­ra­tion.
