Callcott stu­died mu­sic un­der his fa­ther, Dr. John Wall Call­cott, and his brother-in-law William Hors­ley. He com­posed a great deal for the pi­a­no­for­te, and al­so glees, songs and an­thems. He was for a time or­gan­ist at Ely Place Cha­pel, then at St. Barn­a­bas’ Church, Ken­sing­ton, Lon­don, for 16 years.
