Skoog’s family emigrated to America in 1869. After a few years, they moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he was a church music director and taught in a parochial school. He used a middle initial, but had no middle name.
From 1891-1896, Skoog served on the City Council in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He also edited and published Veckobladet, a Swedish language paper, and served as church organist, choir director, and Sunday school director. He edited seven hymnals, including The Covenant Hymnal, and wrote over 300 hymns and anthems. His works include:
