Educated at Harrow and Trinity College, and Cambridge (LLB in honors 1841, DD 1867), Jenner was ordained in 1843 and held curacies at Chevening, Kent; St. Columb, Cornwall; St. Anthony, Cornwall; Leigh, Essex; and Brasted, Kent. He was appointed Vicar of Preston-Next-Wingham, Kent, in 1854, and first Bishop of Dunedin in 1866. In 1870, he returned to his former position at Preston-next-Wingham; he resigned his Bishopric in 1871.
