Son of a priest, Land­stad was or­dained in 1827, and serving par­ish­es in Gaus­dal (1828), Kvite­seid (1834), Sel­jord (1839), Fred­riks­hald (1848), Borg­esys­sel (1854), and Sand­eher­red (1859). He re­tired in 1877 and moved to Kris­ti­an­ia (Os­lo). He is prob­ab­ly best re­mem­bered for his work on a hymna­l for the Lu­ther­an Church of Nor­way, Ud­kast til Kirk­e­salm­e­bog, known as “Land­stad’s hymn­al” (1869). His other works in­clude:
