A composer and conductor, Lutkin studied music in Europe. He served as church organist at St. Clement’s and St. James, Chicago, Illinois, in the 1880’s and 1890’s. Around 1895, he founded the School of Music at Northwestern University. He also helped found the American Guild of Organists and the North Shore Festival in Chicago. His works include:
