A com­pos­er and con­duct­or, Lut­kin stu­died mu­sic in Eu­rope. He served as church or­gan­ist at St. Cle­ment’s and St. James, Chi­ca­go, Il­li­nois, in the 1880’s and 1890’s. Around 1895, he found­ed the School of Mu­sic at North­west­ern Un­i­ver­si­ty. He al­so helped found the Amer­i­can Guild of Or­gan­ists and the North Shore Fes­tiv­al in Chi­ca­go.
